The Galveston World Classic will be held at MoodyGardens in Galveston, TX from September 11-20, 2009. Many international and US players will be competing for a piece of the pie in this major billiard tournament.

There are still player slots available in all of the events. There is VIP seating available to watch the professionals at all levels.

NEW eligibility criteria for the 2010 BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships

Please note the following NEW eligibility criteria for the

2010 BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships:

Women’s 4 Player Teams -

Women’s Open Teams and Women’s Master Teams will be 4 player teams for the 2010 BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships. There are many leagues that do not have many women in the league. By changing the women’s teams to 4 players it will make it easier to form teams from their leagues. It should also increase the number of teams that participate.

Women’s Open Teams will race to 9.

Women’s Master Teams will race to 11.

Team Masters – The BCA Pool League is instituting a new player category for forming Open Teams at the BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships called Team Master. The reason for forming this new category is to eliminate the same people from forming all-star teams year after year. All individuals who were on the rosters of the top 16 Men’s Open Teams and the top 4 Women’s Open Teams since 2005 are under this new designation effective at the 2010 BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships.

A Team Master rating by an individual does not affect their rating as a singles player. If a player is rated as an Open player (and a Team Master) they are still eligible to participate in the Open Singles divisions.

The new requirements for forming an Open Team are as follows:

One Master (or Grand Master) is allowed on an Open Team
Two Team Masters are allowed on an Open Team
One Master (or Grand Master) plus one Team Master are allowed on an Open Team.

Men’s Open Teams are still required to have 3 original members on the roster.

The July 10th – 12th, 2009 WPBA Borderline Billiard Satellite Tour (BB-ST) Registration is now open to ALL players! As of 6:00pm PST, there are only 32 spots left.

19 of our Top WPBA Professionals have entered this event including Kelly Fisher, Karen Corr, Allison Fisher, Monica Webb – now’s your chance to play against the very best without having to qualify for a WPBA Pro Event.

$10,000 added, $19,600 total purse paying down 50% of the field.

Rule Changes for 2009 BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships

To all BCAPL Players, League Operators, Referees, Administrators and Tournament Directors:

The following changes to the 2008-2009 edition of The Official20Rules of the BCA Pool League are effective immediately, and will be in effect for all regional and national events through May 31, 2009. Please give them the widest dissemination possible throughout your organizations. I also recommend that you place them into effect at all upcoming state and local events leading up to the 2009 BCA Pool League 8-Ball National Championships.

Change to: Rule 1.3, Use of Equipment

Rule 1.4, Cue Stick Requirements

Rule 1.8, No Practice During Match

Rule 1.15, Deflecting the Cue Ball When Breaking

Rule 1.39, Illegal Marking

The mandatory warnings and increased penalties for subsequent offenses are eliminated. The penalty for first and subsequent offenses is a foul. However, as with any rule, a pattern of violations of these rules may still be penalized as unsportsmanlike conduct.

Change to: Rule 1.40, Deliberate Foul

The penalty of loss of match for a third offense is eliminated. The penalty for third and subsequent violations is loss of game.

As we approach the BCAPL Nationals, I also suggest that you review with your organizations the penalties for catching the 8-ball as it is falling into a pocket on the break. That is a violation of Rule 1.40(d). The first violation is a foul; second and subsequent violations during a match result in loss of game.

The official text of the changes is enclosed or attached. Flyers suitable for posting or distribution in league packets or at tournaments are enclosed or attached. Please let me know if you need assistance in acquiring copies for distribution. The BCAPL National Office will offer any assistance possible. The following changes in the text of The Official Rules of the BCA Pool League are effective immediately:

Rule 1.3 – Use of Equipment:

Change paragraph 3 to read: "Violation of this rule is a foul."

Rule 1.4 – Cue Stick Requirements:

Paragraph 2: delete the second sentence.

Rule 1.8 – No Practice Allowed During Match:

Delete paragraph 2 and Paragraphs 3, 3(a) and 3(b). Add new sentence to the end of paragraph 1: "In team play, practice fouls committed by team members who are not actually playing in a game at the time of the foul will be enforced on all match tables.

Rule 1.15 – Deflecting the Cue Ball When Breaking:

Delete second and third sentences.

Rule 1.39 – Illegal Marking:

Delete the second paragraph.

Rule 1.40 – Deliberate Foul:

Change the first and second sentences of the final paragraph: "In addition to any penalties required by the General Rules and specific game rules, a mandatory warning must be issued that further violations during the match will resul t in loss of game. Each subsequent deliberate foul during a match results in loss of game.

Rule 2.10(e) – Loss of Game:

Change first sentence to read: "you pocket the 8-ball on a bank shot or kick shot that you do not call."

Referee Class To Be Conducted at 2009 ACS Nationals in Las Vegas

A national referee training class will be conducted at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, May 31-June 2, 2009 – during the 2009 National Championships being produced by the American CueSports Alliance (ACS). Interested parties must have passed an open-book, ACS Referee test prior to attending the class. Class hours are flexible, with entrants taking either a 4-hour class in the mornings or a 4-hour class in the afternoons on each day. Cla ss registration fee is $75, payable onsite. Successful completion of the course by the individual will result in accreditation at “ACS National Referee” level. For information on taking the test prior to the class and reserving your spot for the class, please contact ACS Referee Program Administrator, Janet Ybarra, at (972) 345-9762 or jybarra@americancuesports.org.

Hugh Brown, professional referee and qualified world qualified snooker coach from the United Kingdom will be conducting a snooker referee training seminar during the ACS 2009 Nationals. Mr. Brown was one of the international referees on hand in 2006 to officiate the USA’s first-ever international snooker event – the IBSF World Snooker Team Championships – in San Jose, California, and is a speaker of some renown at various social functions in the sport. Charge for the seminar is $75, with applicants given some flexibility to both train under Mr. Brown and play in the ACS Nationals if they so desire. Successful completion of the course will gain certification through the United States Snooker Association. Mr. Brown will also offer snooker rulebooks and ball markers for sale. Deadlines for entry into the ACS National Championships include April 20, 2009 with a late fee of $25 to accompany any entries mailed thereafter until May 4, 2009. No entries will be accepted after May 4, 2009. Entry forms, tourney info and hotel reservation contacts are available at the ACS website www.americancuesports.org.

The ACS is a non-profit, national organization dedicated to heightening the interest and awareness of cue sports through the support and sanctioning of organized competition throughout the United States and North America.
